Upcoming Events
Save Barnegat Bay will be presenting its newest program “Barnegat Bay Stewards” to the members of the South Seaside Park Homeowners & Voters Association. Members will have the opportunity to create a stewardship project that benefits the bay and its watershed.
About The Oyster Farmers
The Oyster Farmers, a feature length documentary, centers on coastal life in NJ, specifically the Barnegat Bay. The once prolific Eastern Oyster, an economic and cultural keystone, historically decimated, is poised to recapture its legacy. Oyster farmers in the Barnegat Bay lead a Baymen’s renaissance, cultivating a resurgence of the oyster, to restore its heritage.
In association with Oak Leaf Media, the film’s driving force, the ethos of environmental stewardship, coastal culture, and sustainability echoes throughout the film. The Barnegat Bay, historically the epicenter of wild oysters on the entire Eastern Seaboard, is now less than 1%. This film aims to raise awareness of our lost oyster culture and to preserve our Baymen’s heritage.
Being a volunteer or intern for Save Barnegat Bay can be anything from participating in trash clean ups, helping out at festivals, or showing up to public hearings to protest over development. Whatever the role you would like to play in the Save Barnegat Bay community, we want to give you the tools to do it well! Join us for a volunteer trainer immediately following a COA Beach Sweep of Browns Woods. Clean up from 9:00 am-11:00 am and the volunteer trainer will be from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Come for one or both. Light refreshments provided. See you there!

Save Barnegat Bay wants to continue supporting the young people in our community who make Barnegat Bay a part of their education. Every year, Save Barnegat Bay awards one student at the Jersey Shore Science fair $500 for having a thoughtful, original, and relevant science project related to Barnegat Bay and the surrounding watershed. We look forward to meeting these bright students every year!
