In memoriam, from Save Barnegat Bay: Elizabeth's longstanding membership in Save Barnegat Bay was a minor but telling feature among her many environmental, historical and religious involvements. She was an outstanding botanist with an encyclopedic memory for natural and human history and a burning desire to educate. A mentor to most of the environmental leaders in Ocean County, particularly those interested in land conservation, she could hold forth on the smallest detail of a pine barrens flower, or on the larger sweep of history in our region. Elizabeth's life provided a vivacious and dignified reminder that while enthusiasm is a beautiful phenomenon of the moment, culture and tradition survive only if transmitted from generation to generation.
